Perspective

Research translated into action

Garrick was ranked as one of the top 100 most influential economists. His research on monetary innovation, cryptocurrency, and blockchain is widely cited and downloaded.

He co-authored the University of Cambridge's first Global Cryptocurrency Benchmarking Study and its first Global Blockchain Benchmarking Study. He also created CoinDesk's State of Bitcoin and State of Blockchain reports.

Today he teaches, advises investors and institutions, develops executive-education programmes, and helps leaders turn technical, regulatory, and market complexity into clearer decisions.

Experience

Academic and practitioner depth

Garrick previously served as Head of Research at Blockchain.com and held research or visiting-fellow roles at the University of Cambridge and London School of Economics. At Cambridge, he developed and taught the UK's first university class on blockchain technology.

He has more than 20 years of private-sector experience spanning early-stage ventures and established organisations, including Bank of America, The Home Depot, IDG, and Allianz. He has also served on boards of public and private companies.

Garrick completed his PhD in economic history at the London School of Economics under Professors Albrecht Ritschl and Niall Ferguson.
